Artist Statement: I’ll never shake the image in my mind of this woman who appeared to me in my room. An episode of sleep paralysis left me glued to my bed at 3:33 a.m. one night. I laid there, stuck in a sludge of concrete and glue under my sheets, trying to thrash my way out of it. I couldn’t move. Something opened my door and in my heightened state of awareness only my eyes could trace the creature that slunk into my room and tickled my toes. As it crept into my bed, I let out a scream that could have woken the entire apartment complex. The creature disappeared, and this image flashed in my eyes, some sort of mirror image of myself. Her expression – erotic? afraid? – is clear in my mind, even now.
